You deserve a Gaming Chair

It has been almost 2 years since I have last blogged. I was pleasantly surprised to see the thousands of views from you guys. Thank you! Somehow, I realised that if I had to share an idea, the best way to reach a wide audience would not be through Facebook or Twitter (Not sure about other platforms I never evolved past those two 😅) but through this blog. Anyway back on topic.

Background Story

So I am in the technology industry. I work for a cool open source database company  and spend more than 8 hours every day sitting in front my PC (on a chair duh) to get work done. So far (well actually you can go as far as 25 years ago!), I have only been using the so called budget office chairs. By that I mean a typical office chair with 5 weak wheels, unadjustable arm rests and squeaky suspensions. Problems started around 2 or 3 months ago when one of the wheels broke off. Ok no big deal, or so I thought, the chair is still useable I should be able to manage. Now as you might have already guessed, I have been working at home for the majority of this year for obvious reasons

Problem

Thing that I didn't realise is that because of that one wheel, my posture was off balance and my body was constantly compensating for that imbalance. The problem really popped up 2 weeks ago when I started having shoulder pain on one side. The problem kept on getting worse until I felt the muscle fatigue while sitting down. This is what made me realise what was wrong and so I went to buy a better chair.

How to choose a chair?

The simplest way to choose a good chair is to try one and probably the most cost effective one as well with the crazy shipping costs lately (and also because of the size of the goddamn chair). Also if you live in a third world country+island like I do, buying online and shipping is not an option. The only solution I had was go to a mall, try chairs, buy one, walk of shame with a big box to the car, put it in the back of my car somehow and drive back home happy.
If you can't do that and have to buy online then I would suggest that you look for reviews for gaming chairs on YouTube (Yes that is a thing and even Linus Tech Tips does them).

The chair that I bought was an Arozzi similar to the picture below:

A few things that I had to consider in my case:
1. The height of the chair and if it can get below my table
2. The armrests and how comfortable they were to my elbows. You don't want your nerves to get damaged.
3. The neck pillow (if I could remove the annoying thing)
4. Most importantly how comfortable it felt.

Conclusion

So far I am really happy with the purchase. My shoulder pain is gone completely, my productivity is at an all time high, women want me and men want to be me. A real game changer! (hah)
